Herdenking 12 januari 2010, acht jaar later

Dit keer een bijdrage in het Engels (tevens verschenen op de website van Church World Service: https://cwsglobal.org/remembering-haiti-earthquake/). Ter herdenking aan de aardbeving van 12 januari 2010 en de afgelopen acht jaren. Ik denk aan allen die een familielid verloren. In het bijzonder opgedragen aan Patrick en Ezechiel.




Haiti, January 12, 2010
At 4:53 pm the earthquake began
After the shaking the dust settled and then;
Destruction and loved ones gone.

October 4, 2016
Hurricane Matthew, one of the strongest to be seen
Grand Anse and Northwest wiped clean
Damage and losses once more.

Houses, schools and churches destroyed
Crops and animals lost make farmers unemployed
Roads inaccessible and to avoid
No way to rebuild alone.

So many lives impacted
CWS stands up for those neglected
Reaches out to families affected
Fighting against hunger and poverty.

Cooperatives offer access to microcredit
New schools provide students a place to learn and sit
With reconstructed houses new hope is lit
Through training knowledge is shared

Farmers get seeds to plant
Animals help provide for a living
Wells and cisterns are life giving

Solidarity stands strong
Child domestic servants waited to go to school for too long
Voices are united in a song
Let us shine the love of God around the world
